THEME: GOD’S SOVEREIGN INTERVENTION IN GHANA’S POLITICAL HISTORY AND NATIONAL REDEMPTION 

HURRAY! Ghana is Free. Ghana shall never return to the dark spiritual and political days. The light has appeared; the Kingdom of God is here. Ghana is free; Africa is free. Hallelujah! 

It was so that General Kutu-Acheampong overthrew the Busia Administration. Acheampong took a high road of nationalism, the revival of the path to economic emancipation and the liberation of Ghana’s political economy from Euro-America control—all initiated by Kwame Nkrumah. “Ghana must control the commanding heights of the economy,” declared Acheampong. The nationalization of the mining sector, agricultural revolution, and self-reliance posture aimed at breaking foreign control of the economy raised eyebrows. It stirred agony and caused the displeasure and wrath of Euro-America. 

One Western country with significant interest and involvement in the country’s economy felt most displeased. Acheampong must be stopped. General Robert Kotei was enlisted for the task; however, the Kotei-Odartey-Wellington fraternal connection made things difficult. Eventually, General Akuffo took over. He organized a palace-coup to overthrow Acheampong. That coup created a precedent, setting in motion “musical chairs” or chess game in military involvement in national politics. 

This provoked the wrath and fury of the Most High God. Akuffo’s military coup, the military musical chairs, and foreign interruption and control of the political economy and progress of the nation must be halted by Divine intervention. 

The mantle fell on Flt. Lt. J. J. Rawlings, a young officer, not in any way in ranking and reckoning for the military chess game. This was the wisdom and strategy of God Almighty! June 4th came exactly as ordered and set in place by the Most High God. By the way, December 31st also came by the same Divine design and works. 

How did you come to know this? It is through revelation, direction, and commandments of God regarding prayer for the country. Indeed, we had been privileged to receive advance information about the fall of Nkrumah and Busia, as well as the Acheampong-Kotei-Akuffo episodes. We also had indications of the frantic efforts by the West to frustrate and control the politico-economic development and the social advancement of the country (Ghana) and, by extension, Africa. 

Believe it or not, it is the Lord God Jehovah who initiated and orchestrated the May 15 – June 4 episode. Rawlings was the chosen vessel of the Divine intervention. Disputing this only deepens ignorance, darkness, and human disobedience, and thus unnecessary disruption and frustration in national efforts. As I write, some two major Western countries are furious against moves for Ghana and Africa’s unity, independence, and progress. African unity will be, but a ‘paper tiger’ left to these countries. 

On December 30, 1978, while praying about Ghana, the Lord spoke to me saying that He was going to use a young military officer to overthrow the Akuffo SMC (2) government. He stated further that; He would do it in spite of the ongoing arrangements for election for civilian government. Although people will ask why a coup was necessary during the pending elections cycle, the people will ultimately accept the intervention. Hence, the scenario of May 15 and June 4. The seeming failure of May 15 uprising gave young officer Flt. Lt. Rawlings opportunity to explain and answer the question ‘WHY’ a coup at a time the nation was slated for elections. The nation embraced the coup. 

During a four-day crusade organized by the Ghana Evangelical Society at the Independence Square, Accra, January 4-7, 1979, we were given utterance to openly announce the pending fall of the Akuffo regime. That will take place in a time in less than a year. June 4 brought Akuffo down. It might be agreed in this regard that the fall of Acheampong kind of opened the way for the return of Dr. Busia. But Prof. Busia died while preparing for his return home. For some reason the Lord would not allow Prof. Busia to take advantage of the Akuffo coup to plunge himself back on the nation. God was well aware of the earlier Afrifa-Busia connection, if not collusion. On the other hand, those who got involved with and celebrated the fall of Acheampong also disqualified themselves from reckoning. Limann won the 1979 elections because of this. 

The truth is that the Busia Administration was super pro-West—a negative factor in the economic emancipation and nationhood agenda of the nation. We will revisit this one day. 

For now, let us conclude by saying that the May 15 – June 4 episode was God orchestrated. The mantle fell on Flt. Lt. Rawlings to stop military coups and clear the way for clean civilian rule and governance. The May 15 “fiasco” was merely a Divine device for Rawlings to explain the reason and basis of the divine intervention. The Boakye-Djan and others operation were part of the entire drama. 

This shows that Rawlings was but a tool in the hand of God. So also, were Boakye Djan and the rest of the AFRC members. Rawlings deserves honor as a chosen vessel of God. Nevertheless, he cannot claim any special honor for the June 4 episode for him to be made and declared ‘redeemer’ of the country. It is true that when President Limann reneged on the unfinished AFRC ‘house cleansing task,’ Rawlings—as the Divine tool of judgment— had to come back on the scene. Limann failed God, the AFRC, and the nation. 

Those who criticize Rawlings for the December 31 return must review their notes, premises, concerns, and conclusions in the light of the spiritual and historical account herein stated. For example, if they condemn Rawlings, they should first blame Akuffo who sold out the country to a foreign country and the political parties whose interest in power was of a greater concern to them than the nation’s aspirations and God’s will for the country and Africa. There is much to write about the so-called December 31, Revolution and for that matter the NDC as a political party. But suffice to say now that the Rawlings December 31, 1981, return to power was pure and simple to finish the unfinished AFRC job, viz stop the coups, clean the house, make even the political plane, arrange clean return to civilian rule, go back to barracks. Ghana must return to the path of emancipation from foreign control, uninterrupted development, and advancement in nationhood in the knowledge and hand of God. 

Accordingly, the arrangement to turn the Divine “June 4 – December 31” Act into a platform for a so-called ‘revolution’ was unacceptable to God, the Creator. In any case, it is Satanic and wicked in spiritual terms and humanistic, regimental, and oppressive in political terms. In historical terms, it is a drawback to the advancement of independence, freedom, justice, and nationhood agenda of the country. Above all, it was Anti-God, Anti-Ghana, and thus Anti-Africa. At the bottom line, the June 4 – December 31 Divine Act— intended to redeem the country from Satanic power, atheistic-humanistic-philosophies-ideologies, and foreign exploitation, domination, and control has been hijacked by men to build a nation outside the Divine plan for the country and most damnable of all, to establish a ruling dynasty. 

Consequently, the December 31st Revolution took turns and twists. It started on a note of Marxist-Leninist socialism and later changed to Libyan ‘Green Book’ revolution and may be Petrol-Dollar and Islam. Later it attempted Nkrumahism before crumpling into pro-west liberalist-capitalism with the IMF-World Bank takeover of the management of the country’s economy and social policies. That not only brought much pain, but it also crashed the nation’s aspirations for sovereignty, freedom, and liberty, and her economic and social advancement and progress. In the end, the revolution was aligned with passion for traditional Satanism and demonic powers – the power of the gods and the dragon. That led to the total rejection of God and His will and plans for the country. 

The (P)NDC has created a devilish web which has caught millions, even a generation or two later in its entanglements. It took a fresh Divine Act of many dimensions to deliver and redeem the country once more. Ghana is free today. The Divine orchestrated June 4 – December 31 intervention was originally for the peace and righteousness, the good and glory of Ghana. Let no spirit nor man, power nor group claim any glory. The AFRC handed over power without finishing the mission task, hence December 31.  

The Rawlings PNDC – 31st December Revolution was misguided; It failed both God and the nation. Rawlings can no longer claim glory and honor for June 4, not even for December 31. He abused and misused the trust and has instead attempted to turn the June 4 – 31st December Divine Act into a personal feat, make himself God and turn his family into a ruling dynasty. God will share His glory with no one. Ghana has no reigning King but the Almighty. Rawlings is not God, the redeemer of Ghana! 

God the Creator alone who reigns supreme and everlasting deserves all the praise, honor, and glory. He stopped the coups. He delivered the country from Satan-manpower, exploitation, oppression, dominion, and control. Ghana is free. It is God who has made Ghana an oasis of peace. 

No one can turn Ghana back to Danquah, Nkrumah, or Busia glory, nor that of Kotoka-Afrifa, Acheampong or Rawlings, nor for the glory of any political party or the military. God the Father of Jesus Christ is the Redeemer. He is the God, Father, and Redeemer of Ghana. No one else! No No one!! Amen!
