LEADERSHIP CRISIS IN GHANA

Series:

THEME: THE INTERNAL BANE AND THE PERVERSE SPIRIT OF STAGNATION

Ghana is facing a serious malady. This condition, generally described as LEADERSHIP CRISIS, carries deep spiritual and social consequences of far-reaching effect on the destiny, progress, and prosperity of the country, above all the lives, well-being, and happiness of the people of Ghana.  Indeed, it is robbing Ghana of character and glory as a chosen and blessed nation and people.

The malady is prevalent in many sectors of the economy and areas of national life as a whole. From homes, schools, and colleges through associations, business houses, and clubs, to churches and religious groups, public services, politics, and governance—the malady wreaking much havoc to life, social cohesion, progress, and national affairs in general.

The malady which has had negative, depilating, and destructive effect on the country’s march to expected glory land is most prevalent in the Church, Politics, and Governance. In these very important sectors of national life, there is confusion and disarray, with deep influence on spiritual, social order, economic performance, the well-being, and happiness of millions of people, and inevitably the peace, progress, and prosperity of the country.

One is tempted because of this, to posit that the leadership crisis in Ghana and other African countries is a major component and contributory factor to Poverty-In-Plenty in Africa. Low progress, barrenness, poverty, low productivity, and output, non-improving technology, static performance, and slow progress cannot be entirely blamed on foreign deception, commercial and imperialistic, and robbery, exploitation, and oppression. Poor leadership, non-imaginative application, and conduct in resource use and management in a dark tradition and cultural environment—have been a major barrier bane to progress and prosperity in Africa with rich endowment of natural resources and human and physical.

There are both spiritual and social reasons for poor and weak leadership in Ghana/Africa.  We will leave the spiritual reasons except to quote one scripture of the Christian Bible:

“Surely the princes of Zo’an are fools, the counsel of the wise counselors of Pharaoh is become brutish: how say ye unto Pharaoh, I am the son of the wise, the son of ancient kings?  Where are they?  Where are thy wise men? And let them tell thee now, and let them know what the Lord of hosts hath purposed upon Egypt.  The princes of Zo’an are become fools, the princes of Noph are deceived; they have also seduced Egypt, even they that are the stay of the tribes thereof.  The Lord hath mingled a perverse spirit in the midst thereof: and they have caused Egypt to err in every work thereof, as a drunken man staggereth in his vomit. Neither shall there be any work for Egypt, which the head or tail, branch or rush, may do. (Isaiah 19: 11-15)

On the social front, we can trace four major causes of the leadership crisis. These are:

  • The process of emergence and election of leaders – is non-stratified, weak, and confused
  • The process of preparation, equipping, and induction into leadership – ambition and indiscipline, collusion and corruption, covetousness, robbery, greed, and outright usurpation is a growing and expanding phenomenon.
  • The reigning spirit of tradition, infidelity, and opportunism, gain and chance in an environment of darkness, poverty, and faithfulness and hopelessness.
  • The lack of honesty and righteousness, sound spiritual, and moral scruples accentuated by abounding lust for money and wealth, power, position and fame has degenerated the moral fiber of leaders and led alike.
  • Flatters, liars, and folks of violent and moral discomfiture are many among those who mount political platforms and social ladder to the dismay of the upright and wise.

Meanwhile, prospective leaders troop to shrines, Satanic, and wicked agents who seek power and position in society. The satanic agents include false prophets and false teachers of church, academia, and professionals who also go for Baptism, Anointing, and Power in Satan-man wicked works and ways for unconscionable and godless acts.  Leadership and social status are not attained by true cultured lineage and sound preparation and counsel nor by honest, righteous, and acceptable works.  Instead, we have many engaged in bribery and corrupt ways, blood power, and witchcraft, seduction, and lying wonders.

Many of such persuasion owe apology, accountability to no one but the gods and deities, elemental spirits, and their agents in cults, shrines, secret societies, and power brokers.

When people buy their way to leadership through bribery and fraud, false representation, and chicanery, when they obtain power, leadership, and social status from Satan, sorcery, blood sacrifices, and witchcraft, when they mightily ascend throne by satanic power, human craftiness and ingenuity, they deny God and His righteousness, they blaspheme against god and make false profession and representation about their ways, conduct, and affairs. indeed, they become proud, haughty, and arrogant or put on slyness, hypocritical postures, and resort to lying wonders.

On the other hand, when their desire for power, position, success, gain, and fame lead them to false prophets and false teachers, they all become preys to satanic seduction, human passion, and corruption, they lose sense of the good acceptable and perfect will of God the Creator. In the end they design their own failure and doom. For the axe of Divine judgement is ever present in human affairs.

The unfortunate side is that while their poor and unwise judgement and decisions have inevitable costs of poor performance and bad costly leadership to their people. When they succeed in hoodwinking and seducing crowds and nations to their blasphemy and wicked ways, the entire nations and people become doomed to Divine wrath and judgement, poverty, poor and weak performance, poverty, non-progress, and stagnation.

Leadership crisis in Ghana and Africa needs critical study in all its ramification in spiritual, politico-economic and socio-cultural terms in life and death, hopelessness prevalent in Africa.

We should take serious view of idolatry, sorcery, and blood sacrifices which opens gates, doors, and national life to violence, wickedness, control, and Divine wrath and judgement, deaths, famine, and wars, poverty, and backwardness and non-progress.

“The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” (John 10:10 NKJV)

“I was glad when they said unto me, let us go into the house of the Lord.” (Ps. 122:1 NKJV)

“But seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” (Matt. 6: 33NKJV)
