THE FIRE OF THE WIND

Series:

THEME: DIVINE VISITATION AND THE PURGING FIRE OF NATIONAL JUDGMENT

In the Holy Bible, the Holy Spirit—the Third Person of the Triune God—is described in many terms: Fire, Wind, Water, Spirit of Truth, Comforter, and others. These names, like the various terms of Jehovah (Jehovah Nissi, Jehovah Adonai, etc.), essentially describe some forms or aspects of power operations by Jehovah God, the Father.

We are concerned in this article, The Fire of the Wind, with sharing thoughts about the movement of God’s hand in the land. In a previous discussion, we spoke about coming visitation of the Lord in the nation.

The visitation of the Lord can come in many ways and forms. Many people are conversant with disasters such as deaths, earthquakes, famine, pestilence, violence, and wars.  Noteworthy Biblical examples include the flood in the days of Noah, the calamities that befell Pharaoh Egypt, and the fall of Jerusalem after Christ’s lamentation over the city. Dear reader, while the days of Noah’s flood are gone, Divine intervention, judgement, and vengeance in human affairs are not. The visitation of the Lord can come by practical fire, as well as by way of eruption of social upheavals, the exposure of wicked works, deaths, and pain upon evil and wicked people, the failure of enterprises, etc. The truth here is that the voice of the Lord rings through the prophets of righteousness and the preachers and teachers of truth of the Holy, Righteous and Faithful Church. The prophets and priests of the Lord are with us today as of old. They declare the righteousness of God, warning about the knowledge and honor, truth and judgement of God in the nations—Ghana in particular. (Matthew 24: 37-40).

We are aware in this regard of the abomination of Daniel and the syndrome of compromise, hypocrisy, whited sepulcher, murderous tongues, lies, and falsehood that have been with the church for many years (Matthew 24: 15; 23: 23-34). Nevertheless, it is true to say that God has not left Himself without a witness in Ghana.

To be sure, there are many Christians, pastors, fine learned, and wise men and women, scholars, rich and powerful who do not believe that the overthrow of Nkrumah and Busia, the military coups, and the disruption of the political and economic processes and social advancement of the country is God’s anger, wrath, and judgement at work in the land. They would vote for, honor, and advance the ideas, policies, and practices of the ancestors—Nkrumah, Busia, Acheampong and Rawlings— without any caution and without due diligence to history and above all else, any knowledge of God, the Truth and Righteousness of God, and the Divine ordained destiny of the nation.

It is here that we are tempted to ask: Is Ghana being ruled by men and women who would speak and act as if there is no God, or that the LORD has forsaken the earth and that the LORD sees not?  Does it no longer matter what the Bible teaches, what history has taught, and what the holy and faithful fathers have warned about?

We declare here that the iniquity of the nation and Church alike is exceeding great. The land is full of blood. Government, public administration, and business are full of perverseness (Ezekiel 9: 9).  The abuse of power and public trust—corruption, embezzlement, fraud, and robbery and outright stealing—are open secrets in governance and administration and the public services. MDA’s, Municipal, and District Assemblies, state banks, and enterprises, joint state-private corporations, politicians, public officials, and political parties, ministers of state, chief executives, and managers, all treat the state treasury, national assets, and wealth as if they were personal and private properties, rules and regulations or not. Often, the boards of state corporations join in the fray of abuse of office and trust, corruption, and robbery. It would be true to say in this regard that the revelations in the public account’s reports are but a tip of the iceberg regarding the true happenings in the public services, government, and nation.

Let us relate an episode in Tamale in the mid-eighties. Once we were sent, among others, to challenge the PNDC under Chairman Rawlings on the issues of corruption during a crusade in Tamale. The question was asked: having overthrown a civilian regime on account of corruption and the need for “house cleaning, “was the PNDC not now engaged in corruption and robbery when they got into power. The message was challenging and threatening. The following day, a band of about twelve soldiers was dispatched, ostensibly from Tamale barracks, to stand behind the crusade platform as we continued with the prophetic mission of the church. We did not ask for protection, yet it seemed someone deemed it fit to send soldiers to defend us at the Police Park, Tamale. The voice of God on national affairs has never been missing in the land; for our part, we have been interviewed several times by the BNI.

Today, one may wonder whether the Prof. Atta-Mills’ administration is not engaged in seeking to resurrect and restore Nkrumah as the spiritual father and “life” Head of State of Ghana. Is the government not trying to restore Nkrumah’s philosophies, policies, and practices, political ideology and strategies in the building, governance, and management of so-called ‘Better-Ghana’?

Dear reader, we say “so-called” Better Ghana because we are not yet been told what is wrong, what need to be changed, and fixed, why, how, and what direction and goal of the change so we could buy into it, pray for it, and participate in the processes. We want to believe that the Christian Church ministers, churches, and fellowships committed to the Better-Ghana agenda are well aware of the spiritual, political, and social direction and the implications thereof. That they are satisfied of divine heavenly approval, provision, and protection and above all, God’s holy presence and hand in the Better-Ghana vision and mission, and above all the activities and conduct of the government.

While we do not dispute the sincerity connected therewith. But we are tempted to dispute the Divine approval of the Better-Ghana’s vision, whatever it implies. For were it not so, the Lord would not have spoken about His disapproval of things and consequent visitation of the land.

May we digress here a bit? Is former President Rawlings disappointed and hence, is disapproving of the conduct of affairs of President Atta-Mills because of the resurrection and restoration of Nkrumah and not the protection and promotion of the Rawlings-Ghana agenda? Or is ex- president Rawlings afraid that the failure of the Atta-Mills Administration will invoke the recurrence of CPP-Limann story upon the NDC? That is to say, is Rawlings afraid that the NDC will never return to power— much like the CPP after Limann, or the UP’s “wilderness” years after Busia?

The truth is that Divine anger and wrath against the Atta-Mills administration need not, and will not, come by way of a coup as it did with Nkrumah, Busia, Limann, or Akuffo. The New Ghana is on a new threshold of Divine Hand and Divine control.

It is here that Divine anger will come like fire in the wind blowing across the country— burning, overthrowing, removing, and settling at naught the unrighteous, unjust, and wicked works of government and people. (Psalm 2: 1-9; 33: 6-11, 13-17). In short, the Lord is passing through the land with fire in His wings. Let Israel (Ghana) and Judah (the true worshippers) take note: the fire of the wind is the way God is judging and asserting His authority and power, governance, and control over the country.

LET ALL THE PEOPLE PRAISE THE LORD. Amen!
