Theme: THE POLITICAL AGENDA
(9th February 1993)

Synopsis
A welcome address by Bro. Enoch, urging Christians to political action, establishing
God’s Kingdom through righteousness for national peace and prosperity.
Preamble
In The Great Commission Jesus Christ not only declared His exalted position and
mandate, He gave the church a spiritual and political Charter
“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the Name of the
Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I
have commanded you; And lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
(Matt. 28: 19-20)
The Holy Spirit led St. Paul to reveal the import of the mission, namely, a Mission
of Reconciliation, the reconciliation of the whole world to God:
“Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and
has given us the ministry of reconciliation, that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the
world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the
word of reconciliation.” (2nd Cor. 5: 18-19)
The Church is charged to act as Ambassadors of Jesus Christ to the nations of the World,
to proclaim and establish His Kingdom, even the Kingdom, even the Kingdom of God by
teaching and establishing and all the people whom the Father shall call in the
commandments of God through faith in Jesus Christ.
It might be apparent that when the Church’s teachings are new and different from the
prevailing belief and value systems, the community of believers, when they become
faithful in their adoption, practice and mission in the new belief and value systems, will
constitute a religious and social force, with political implications. When their members
increase, and the demonstration effect of the new systems catches on, political
advocacy will be unavoidable.
Such advocacy need not be overt, deliberated and organised. It may be but silent in a
simple non-conformist way. In either case, it cannot escape the attention of the
authorities and power that be. Such has been the experience of Jesus Christ Himself and
of the Church since it launched out on Pentecostal Day in Jerusalem 2,000 years ago.
That is to say, when the Christian Faith expand, embracing entire communities and
peoples, it is inevitable that its presence will affect the culture and social reality and
indeed the political life of the people. The question arises then whether the saints should
have or deserve a right of advocacy regarding their faith, belief and value systems.
If they deserve a right of advocacy, should that right be confined only to the religious
realms of freedom of association and worship or whatever such a right should embrace
all freedoms, including the right of their political philosophy, the right to organize so they
can at least participate effectively in the government of the land where they dwell. If they
have a right to organize their own political platform, should they be free to present such
a platform and any agenda thereon for consideration and adoption by the people of the
nations?
On the other hand, when an entire people or nation adopt the Christian Faith, it is
inevitable that they will order their affairs according to their faith, or belief system.
It would appear then that, even in the context of democracy, the development of
advocacy of a platform based on theism and the Christian Faith for that matter connate
be unacceptable proposition.
We are encouraged in this belief by our convictions regarding the true import of The Great
Commission and the movement of the Spirit of God around the world in these latter days.
The world is now in a state of confusion due primarily to the Rejection of the knowledge
of God and the exaltation of human philosophy which inevitably are unable to deliver the
goods.
For example, the fall of the communist/socialist system has dealt a great blow to the
hopes of millions who had been persuaded to look unto Marxism/Leninism for peace,
justice and progress.
On the other hand, the evils inherent in the liberalist/capitalist system which prompted
the Marxist/Leninist reaction are still prevalent. If anything, wealth concentration has
now become a world phenomenon via multinational, now spearheaded and shepherd by
the International Monetary Fund/Word Bank operation. The result is the broadening of the
poor, oppressed and exploited class proletariat to nations, and from colonies to so-called
Third World Dwellers.
The division of humanity is now in two-fold, Haves and Have-nots, and North and South.
Now, though the poor and oppressed of the North are crying for liberation, the Media of
the North are being used as it were to show them how privileged they are compared to
the sorrowful state of affairs in the South. Meanwhile, arms and ammunition find their
way to the South to promote political instability and hinder development and also to push
puppets into authority so as to provide shelter for continued exploitation. Thus, sin or evil
is multiplies upon sin.
There seems to be a conspiracy of the highest order in the world affairs today. The
military-economic system is one open manifestation thereof. There surely may be others.
In this complex and confused situation, the perpetrators of evil hypocritically drum into
the ears of the oppressed peoples of the world the virtues of the market system and
democracy, multi-partyism to wit.
Of course, the market in their theatre of operation is synonymous with capitalism.
Similarly, democracy is synonymous with state power, with the State as God in may lands,
and political arrangements which protect the “controlling class,” leaving the university
dons and media to debate over so-called pluralism, helping to divine and rule, meanwhile
confusing the suffering populations of the world the more.
The truth is that the world is being ruled by lies and organised evil, wickedness in high
places. Hence, there are wars and rumors of wars. There is no peace anywhere.
But is there no escape, no hope for humanity? Surely there is: A Return to God and His
Commandments, in the acknowledgment of Whom He Sent and obedience to His
commandments, so He will save humanity from the present snare of evil, so there be
peace.
In this connection, Jesus Christ is the Spirit and key of Reconciliation, Peace,
Righteousness, Redemption and Joy for humanity. Jesus Christ has come to save the
world from sin, His Spirit, Works and Word or Teachings constitute the basis of
Reconciliation and Righteousness before God and hence Peace and Divine Providence
for any and all people.
The Bible assures,
“Blessed is the nation whose God is JEHOVAH;
And the people whom He has chosen as His won inheritance.” (Ps. 33:12)
This implies, we believe, a blessed and open door for all people. Individual as well as
nations to be chosen by God. The key to entrance to the Divine inheritance and Kingdom
is Jesus Christ and hence the Christian Faith (Jude 1; Acts 26: 15-18). This takes the
Christian Faith a key not only for individuals salvation and personal happiness but also
for national reconciliation with God and Divine acceptance, protection and prosperity of
national processes.
People of God, the Spirit of God is moving all over the world to pull down the systems and
structures of oppression and exploitation at all levels. As we pointed out yesterday, God
is on the move to pull down the pride of man. God is shaking the earth so the fear of Him
and the glory of His majesty be acknowledged.
In any case, our times can be likened unto the days of Noah. The ARK of our day is JESUS
CHRIST. To believe in Him is to be saved. To honour Him is not only to be reconciled with
God but also to establish a New Social Order of Peace, Righteousness, Justice and
Happiness for all.
It is with this in mind that we are again encouraged to present at this Forum of political
platform and agenda based on God, Christ and the scriptures for human redemption,
peace, progress and prosperity for the nations and peoples of the world.
We submit the Christian Political Agenda for critical and prayerful consideration for
adoption by nations or any group of people desirous of Christian political and social
action for the good of humanity, and the praise and glory of God on earth.
May God help us all!!
INTRODUCTION – THE (CHRISTIAN) POLITICAL AGENDA
The topic for our discussion this evening is THE (CHRISTIAN) POLITICAL AGENDA under
the main topic for the Forum, Christian Agenda for a Christian Nation.
The Christian Political Agenda for building a Christian nation or to guide Christian political
action here presented has been determined under the general platform or the theme,
God, Christ and the Scriptures for Christian conduct and action.
The agenda has been inspired solely by the scriptures and hence drawn completely with
reference to the scriptures, and not any known political ideology as such, Christian or
otherwise.
The agenda is based on two scriptures, the first pertains to The Significance of Christ’s
Mission on earth, revealed at His first advents, and the second to Christ’s own direction
and commandment regarding The Pursuit of happiness on earth. These two scriptures to
me constitute or can be adopted as Revealed Divine Philosophy for Life for the individual
as well as for peoples and nations.
We present it in humility, yet in full assurance of faith, as A Way of Life acceptable and
pleasing to God. We trust that our discussions here and further search into the scriptures
and prayers will help make it more and more comprehensive in dealing with the complex
and ever changing, ever unfolding human experience.
The two base scriptures are:
1. “Glory to God in the highest,
And on earth peace,
Goodwill toward men” (Luke 2: 14)
2. “But seek ye first the Kingdom of God
And His righteousness
And all these things shall be added unto you” (Matt. 6:33)
ON CHRISTIAN’S MISSION ON EARTH – AGENDA FOR ACTION
Christ’s mission at His first advent according to the angel of the Lord and the Prophet John
the Baptist is to Save Man from Sin thereby Save the world (Matt. 1: 21; John 1: 29).
The angelic song in Luke 2: 14 reveals further the full import of Christ’s Mission, and
hence as we said yesterday Divine Agenda for Christian conduct and action as a whole.
The song we noted reveals three basic features necessary in human conduct:
1. GLORY TO GOD IN THE HIGHEST: –
The acknowledgement, and establishment of the Sovereignty of God in human
affairs in belief, worship and life, giving God the Glory in all things. This is the
fundamental solution to the issue of Sin and Divine Wrath in human affairs;
(Faith in Jesus and His Redemptive Work on the Cross falls under this).
2. ON EARTH PEACE: –
The Pursuit, Establishment and Prevalence of Peace in human affairs,
demanding Reconciliation for the resolution of conflict in society – this implies
a system and culture of reconciliation for the resolution of conflict in society
as there be Peace on earth.
3. GOODWILL TOWARDS MEN
The Establishment of Goodwill as basis and cornerstone of human relations –
A Life or Social Order of Love, Co-operation and Unity.
IN THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS
From the scriptures Matt. 6:33, we obtain Divine Revelation on the Pursuit of Happiness
as follows: –
1. SEEK YE FIRST THE KINGDOM OF GOD
The search for God, and submission to His Sovereignty, Reign and Rule in Life.
2. AND HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS
Then building of life or conduct based on The Righteousness of God – i.e., as
Revealed in the Scriptures. This is of Spiritual Religious and Philosophical
significance.
3. AND ALL THINGS SHALL BE ADDED UNTO YOU
A life or spirit of Trust and Dependence on God in the Pursuit of Happiness.
The above three revelations not only guide on the goals of life and human conduct as a
whole, but also the how to pursue and obtain happiness in life.
LIFE GOALS – POLITICAL PLATFORM
It is from these two scriptures or propositions confirmed by other scriptures in the Holy
Bible that we have been led to draw a political platform of God, Christ and scriptures for
redemption, peace, progress and prosperity and unity.
The objective in combining these two scriptures for the political platform is to ensure the
harmonizing of individual and private goals with social goals or the social good.
It is necessary to substantiate here that the Christian faith upholds these two scriptures
as basic truths for faith and action and hence fundamental goals in Christian mission in
the world. Suffice to say however that the mission of the Church is based on the Gospel
otherwise described as The Word of Reconciliation, and hence the Church’s work as
Ministry of Reconciliation (2nd Cor. 5: 18-20)
The acknowledge expected result of that mission is that men, nations and peoples
everywhere shall be reconciled unto the True and Living God through faith in His Son,
Christ Jesus, so they establish righteous and faithful worship of God and enter into the
Divine Inheritance and the Kingdom of God and His Christ.
Similarly, we do not consider it necessary to argue here whether it is necessary for
Christian or men of goodwill to take political action whatever their goal. That has been
assumed.
We may mention however, that whatever our definition of politics, whatever goal in life,
political action will be necessary to ensure the ordering of life in an acceptable way for
the attainment of life goals. In this regard, withdrawal or inaction is also action. Refusing
to vote or attend meetings is action.
But be it as it may, one thing Christians will surely want to avoid, is to disobey God in
failure to go, preach, teach, witness of Jesus Christ and make men to Know and Observe
the commandment of God, so Peace and Goodwill obtain on earth and God’s blessings
come to all. The Kingdom of God must come down. It is here.
We submit the Christian Political Agenda therefore with this firm belief in God, Christ, The
Scriptures and the inspired faithfulness of the Saints.
THE POLITICAL AGENDA
The Christian or men of goodwill who love God and love their neighbours have a spiritual
and moral responsibility towards God and Humanity to play their part for the ordering of
the affairs of life in society according to the Revelation of God’s will and the aspiration of
their fellow men.
For such people, individuals, groups or whole nations, we suggest the following basic
agenda for political action, drawn within the Spiritual and Philosophical Framework
submitted yesterday: –
1. THE ACKNOWLEDGMENT OF THE REALITY OF GOD, AND SUBMISSION TO
HIM: –
His Supremacy, Sovereignty, Reign and Rule in the affairs of men and society.
Political action is necessary to prevent the Total Rejection of God and the
Knowledge of Him by whole peoples. This will not so much prevent the multiplicity
of sin or letting loose of hell in society, it will abate the Wrath of God and His
Judgment in Death, through Famine, Pestilence, and Sword (War) and the
scattering of the people into captivity (Ezekiel Chapter 5 & 7).
GOD MUST BE ACKNOWLEDGE AND HONOURED AS GOD OF AND BY PEOPLE
(Ps. 86: 8-10; 22: 27-28; Rev. 15: 1-4)
2. THE ACKNOWLEDGEMENT, HONOUR AND LORDSHIP OF JESUS CHRIST
From the Christian and spiritual perspective, this is a subject of deep significance,
for which Christian political action must ensure at least is not discredited. There
is no Saviour but Christ. There is no Redeemer but Christ. There is no Mediator but
Christ. Jesus Christ is The Son Given, The Light of the World, The Hope of Glory. To
Him the Church and All Humanity owe life, peace, righteousness, joy and hope in
everything. Political action must help bear the Banner and Standard of Jesus
Christ outside as the priest bear it in the Temple, Jesus is Lord is the Banner.
3. THE WORD OF GOD AS BASIS OF LIFE AND OF LAW (Deut. 4: 1, 2 & 6; Ps. 19: 2;

nd Pet. 2: 20-21)
The Recognition and Acknowledgement of the Holy Scriptures as The Word of God
and as constitution THE REVEALED WILL OF GOD to guide human conduct and
life as a whole in society. Political action – IN LEGISLATION, EDUCATION and
SOCIAL CONDUCT, etc. will be necessary not alone to integrate and purity existing
belief and value systems and culture with the scriptures, it will also be necessary
to ensure that no law is passed to enforce practices, culture and life-style contrary
to the scriptures on believers and practitioners of the Biblical culture.
THE SCRIPTURES MUST BE MADE THE BASIS OF LAW AND LIFE FOR A
CHRISTIAN NATION (Isaiah 2: 3)
4. THE CHURCH AS PRIEST AND PROPHETS OF NATION
Political action and hence legislation may be deemed necessary to enshrine the
place of the Church and Priest and Prophet of Nation. Political action will at least
be necessary to protect and defend the right of the Church to exercise its priestly
and prophetic role in society. The people when there is no (faithful) priest making
them lack knowledge; they also perish when there is no vision (Hos. 4:6; Prov.
29:18). The significance of this provision in spiritual, religious and political terms
are too obvious to demand any elaboration. Suffice to say, therefore, that
whatever the level of enlightenment, sophistication and competence, leaders and
people alike need vision, direction and mediation in human affairs. Because of
this unavoidable human necessity, present day leaders in atheistic humanistic,
idolatrous and so-called revolutionary societies have tended to depend on
political philosophers and economist, party functionaries and solders and, often
times and in spite of it all astrologers, spiritist, soothsayers and fetish priests and
priestesses, mallams and quacks, etc. what is man that thou art mindful of him!
5. FREEDOM OF WORSHIP, RIGHT TO LIFE AND OTHER HUMAN RIGHTS
Pressure for and defense of Freedom of Worship, Right of Life, individual Liberty
and Equality before God and Law and other Human Rights are now university
accepted legitimate and necessary political action. A Christian Nation will in this
context be under obligation not only to ensure that the Christian Faith is
acknowledge, accepted and accorded the right and place as national religion but
also to protect the rights of citizens and all people to believe and worship what
and/or whom they may.
However, if a nation declares itself a Christian nation and accords the Christian
Faith the due recognition, if follows that no other Mediator, spirit or God will be
honoured in official and public matters, except in private worship and at the law
court.
It should be possible nonetheless for a Christian government to educate on and
ban idol worship and witchcraft particularly in the African context (reference
Isaiah Chapter. 19). It is common knowledge in this regard the human sacrifice,
bloodshed, wickedness and evil practices connected with idol worship, also the
superstition, bondage and backwardness among its practioners. Africa needs
liberation from this darkness.
6. PEACE, HARMONY and UNITY IN SOCIETY
Christian political action has PEACE as a major political objective and hence
demands the establishment of system and channels of reconciliation catering for
conflicts and the protection of the needs of minorities, the poor, weak and needy
in society.
7. RIGHTEOUSNESS and JUSTICE IN SOCIETY
The prime issue in the propagation of the Gospel and Christian Mission in the
world is the Salvation of human souls, the True Worship of the Living God and the
Establishment of a New Social Order of Peace, Righteousness, Justice and
Happiness in society.
These in broad terms constitute the building of the Kingdom of God on earth. In
this regard, the building of the Kingdom will involve not only the Prophet but also
the King and his princes, government that is. To that extent the chief and prime
area of political action for Christian government and faithful as a whole in the
establishment and defence of Righteousness and Justice in society (Matt. 5:12-
16; Ps. 72: 1-4; Ish. 62: 1, 6-7).
Thus, Christian political action whether in government or out of government or
simply serving as conscience and Divine Voice in the land, is essentially to take up
the mantle of Righteousness in Justice in society. Righteousness and Justice are
the foundation of His Throne (Ps. 97:2; Heb. 1:8). “Thy throne O God, is forever and
ever, a scepter of righteousness is the scepter of Thy Kingdom.”
A Christian government shall thus be under Divine and Moral obligation to
establish righteous and just laws, systems, structures and institutions and to
ensure that all institutions operate and all measures are executed in judicious and
righteous manner.
This is the kernel truth underpinning Christian political action. For the scripture
reveal in Proverbs 29:2
“When the righteous are in authority,
The people rejoice;
But when the wicked beareth rule,
The people mourn.”
CONCLUSION
In summation, we can conclude that Christian Political Agenda is aimed primarily at
establishing RIGHTEOUSNESS in society, so the Kingdom of God becomes reality. As the
scriptures reveal in Proverbs 14: 34
“Righteousness exalteth a nation.
But sin is a reproach to any people.”
There will be righteousness when God is acknowledged and honoured, and worshipped
in spirit and truth, when His supremacy, sovereignty, reign and rule are acknowledged in
Law and government, when conduct guided by the cherished Revealed will of God in the
scriptures, and the people are led in building a righteous and just society.
On the other hand, there is and ungodliness when God is rejected, when human
philosophies take precedence over the knowledge and Truth of God; above all, when
Jesus Christ is rejected by people (John. 16: 7-11). That denies them the protection and
providence of God and exposes them to the perpetuation of the tyrannical rule of wicked
men and spirits.
The wrath of God then prevails.
That is to say, apart from acknowledgment and honouring the sovereignty of God, His
worship and obedience to His commandments in political direction, Christian political
action and government must lead to the establishment of political infrastructure and
social conduct as will enshrine the knowledge and fear of God, human rights, peace,
goodwill and unity in society. That will help commute the pursuit of personal happiness
with the social good.
Thus, the political agenda here submitted is aimed at bringing to reality the vision and
declaration of God in Isaiah 32: 1
“Behold, a king shall reign in righteousness,
And princes shall rule in judgment.”
When this pleases God and the Spirit of God is poured upon national processes, thus
saith the Lord.
“The judgment shall dwell in the wilderness, and righteousness remain in the fruitful
field. And the work of righteousness shall be peace, and the effect of righteousness,
quietness and assurance forever. And my people shall dwell in peaceable habitation,
and in quiet resting places.” (Isaiah 32: 16-18)
Finally, my brethren, Christian Political Action must honour God and Exalt the Lord Jesus
Christ. The Lord Jesus Christ is the King that shall reign in righteousness and His princes
or government establish it with judgment and justice (Isaiah 9:7)
“Unless the LORD builds the house, they labour in vain who build it; Unless the Lord
guards the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.” (Psalm 127: 1)
