THE CHURCH’S MISSION: ENGINEERING A NEW WORLD ORDER
THE NATIONAL HOLY SPIRIT CONFERENCE
TOPIC: THE CHURCH, SOCIAL JUSTICE AND WORLD ORDER
TITLE: THE CHURCH’S MISSION: ENGINEERING A NEW WORLD ORDER
1991
Delivered by Bro. Enoch Agbozo
SYNOPSIS
The Church’s divine mandate is to rise as Christ’s authority, actively engineering a
righteous new world order to abolish global chaos and injustice.
PREAMBLE
In the keynote address, we made reference to the mission of Christ in the world as one
of the establishments of a New Human Order after Him – His Spirit, His Teaching or Word,
His Authority and Power.
We suggested later on that this New Order should not be viewed simply as an ideal which
is only to guide, conduct, or serve as a standard measure for conduct, but that we should
view it as a practical proposition, which individuals, nations, human society as a whole
can accept as basis for life, for private and public policy and social engineering as a
whole.
Of course, we are aware of the difficulties involved, the human limitations, the issue of
time for the emergence of effective institutional arrangements, the “until-now”
inadequate or scarce natural resources supply situation, and above all, the inevitable
battle with Satan, the enemy of God and man, until evil is removed totally from the human
scene, at the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. As is common knowledge, it is the above
factors that are, humanly speaking, generally responsible for the violent and chaotic
world order, the wicked, exploitative and oppressive human relations, not to mention
natural calamities and disasters that bring much suffering and sometimes frustrates
progress.
It might be appropriate therefore that this places much responsibility on the church or
better still, the saints who have not only established effective relationship with God, and
Christ Jesus, the Lord, but have been specifically commissioned for the sole purposes of
bringing creation and the nations back to God, teaching and equipping all for the mission,
having been made instruments for God and Christ to establish the New Order under
Christ Jesus as God, King and Lord.
We want to suggest therefore that the New Order should be viewed by the church as a
commandment from God or Christ. It is the Father’s wish to give man “The Kingdom.”
Jesus said in John 20:24, “Peace to you. As the Father has sent Me, I also send you….”
For this purpose, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore
and make disciples of all the nations, teaching them to observe all things that I
commanded you.” In other words, the church is on a mission to make Jesus Christ, Lord
of the Nations in real and practical terms.
Indeed, in Luke 4: 18-19, the Lord specifically stated this to be his mission. The mission
is to save, to heal, to liberate and to give knowledge and understanding about God’s
eternal plans. The goal of the mission is to make man have and enjoy the Abundant Life
– or live the state of the New Order, of Peace, Righteousness and Joy in the power of the
Holy Spirit.
INTRODUCTION
It is in this context that we want to consider the responsibility of the church with regard
to Social Justice and World Oder.
First of all, I do not want to state here the catalogue of woes in the world, except to refer
in broad and general terms to the wicked and oppressive political systems, the
exploitative and downright robbery economic arrangement in the world, the oppressive
and unrighteous social initiation all over the world. In fact, what is most alarming and
unacceptable is not so much the suffering among the peoples of the world but the state
of nature where the exploited and oppressed, the dead and dying have been made to
accept their state as the norm; so they live without any knowledge of anything better,
settle in the stupor and hence make no attempt to work out their salvation, liberate
themselves and come into fruition as God’s creation.
The apartheid system of South Africa for example is symptomatic of this world
arrangement. The haves collect themselves in the North, with tiny finger jolting out of the
sea in Japan, as against the poor and struggling South, who provide the human and
natural resources and controlled subsidiary market of the North, The vast Non-European
black South Africans are heaped on poor special locations providing cheap labour and
limited market for the small ‘European’ South Africans and their overseas northern
brothers with the little finger of Asiatic hanging along. The emergence of world bodies
such as the United Nations has not and cannot change the situation in any way. The truth
is that the North controls and will attempt to continue to control, indeed ensure their
control of the financial and material resources of the world.
The church’s task in this context is not only to preach and teach salvation and the
establishment of peoples in the knowledge of God and the truth about life, and God’s
purposes, liberating them from the forces of evil, men and spirits alike, but also to engage
in the cultural liberation and political and economic emancipation, bringing all into the
Abundant Life of the New Order of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ. For this purpose, God has
equipped the church with: –
1. The Gospel and Word of Reconciliation
2. The Holy Spirit Power and Accomplishment
3. The Weapons of the Spirit, Name and Blood of Jesus Christ
4. The Service of the Holy angels in the world.
