THE POWER OF NEW BIRTH (REGENERATION)
NATIONAL HOLY SPIRIT CONFERENCE
THEME: THE REGENERATION POWER
THE POWER OF NEW BIRTH (REGENERATION)
BY: REV. OPUNI- 1986
SYNOPSIS: This message encourages believers by revealing regeneration as the Holy
Spirit’s power to create a new nature and grant full inheritance as God’s sons.
We live in a world of power. Revolution of all kinds are taking place around the world.
All are seeking one main major goal and that is to reform our social, political and
economic order. Most of these revolutions are being carried out through a very heavy
demonstration of military power through decrees and laws. Despite all these social
reforms man’s basic problems are much the same throughout the world. The
regeneration power is a power with a difference. It is power that is able to break through
to the roots of man’s problems and needs. It is God’s power Himself released to man
through our Lord Jesus Christ to meet the human needs. It is Power to Create a New Man.
(2nd Cor. 5: 17)
“Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed
away; behold, all things are become new.”
In Genesis when God created the heaven and the earth it was the power of the Holy Spirit
through the utterance of God’s Word that caused all things into being. Regeneration is
creating a new man. It is not reforming or renewing the old man, it is creating a new man
in place of the old. The old nature of Adam in human beings is man’s basic problem. That
old sinful is basically sinful, and wicked. Bible says “that the heart of man is desperately
wicked, who can know it? Jeremiah 17: 9
Consequently, through the power of regeneration God is creating new heart into people
who would come to Him through faith in Jesus Christ His Son. This is made possible
through the death and resurrection of Christ. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, a new
heart is created in the one who believes on Christ. Ezekiel 11: 19, 36: 26 says “A new heart
will I give you……. And put my Spirit within you.” This act of the Holy Spirit is what causes
an individual to submit to the rule of God in one’s life. It also this act of the Holy Spirit that
causes chronic evil habits to be broken permanently from one’s life.
THE NECESSITY OF REGENERATION
Regeneration is imperative to human existence here on earth and to our relationship with
God because the Bible declared that it is in the heart of Man all evils come from. Mark 7:
21-23.
For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries,
fornications, murders, Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness,
an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: All these evil things come from within,
and defile the man.”
So, to solve human real problems the work must start from the heart. When the source of
fountain is clean, the water will obviously be clean, if it is dirty the water will surely be the
same. What is threatening the human existence here on earth is not nuclear weapon. It
is the human heart. When the man gets right, the world will indeed get right. When the
heart is right, man in connected to the source of God’s power in one’s life. The power of
God is released to an individual’s life by the Holy Spirit and virtues like love, peace, joy
etc. manifest in one’s life. (Gal. 5:22)
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness,
faith”
REGENERATION PROVIDES POWER TO OUR BIRTHRIGHT
John 3: 1-6, 12-13;1st Peter 1: 23; 1st John 5:1
The Power of the Holy Spirit brings us to the right relationship of God’s creation to God’s
sons. To be a son of God is the highest title that could be accorded to one in heaven. God
grants us power to become His sons, bringing us to the same level with His only begotten
Son, Jesus Christ.
It is only the relationship that is restored, but He gives us power to legally be joint heirs
with Christ. Legally, Regeneration grants us power to legally posses the inheritance of
God, our Father. Through Christ we posses eternal life, healing, prosperity, and heaven.
All spiritual and physical blessings of God become our portion to claim. That’s a
tremendous power indeed.
HOW TO APPRECIATE THIS POWER
1st Peter 1: 23; 1st John 5:1
This source of power is made available to us through the Gospel. Christ died and rose up
again according to the Holy Scriptures. By faith one can believe with one heart and
confess with one’s mouth, hence appropriate this power through the channel of the Holy
Spirit. The power is opened to all who believe.
