CHRIST AND THE CHURCH MISSION (PART I)

Series:

THEME: THE DIVINE MANDATE FOR THE RESTORATION OF EUROPE THROUGH THE MESSIANIC KINGDOM

We present here an abridged version of a Talk we delivered at a Church Mission Conference in London in April 2011. We believe readers will benefit from it. It will help bring truth, understanding, and clear the confusion and illegitimacy, unrighteousness, immorality, and filthiness in the Church.

Greetings in the name that is above every name: Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God, Head and Master of the Church, and King of Glory.  Christ Jesus our Lord is the Savior, Reconciler, Redeemer, and Restorer of the lost and perishing world. We are gathered here on a Vision and Mission of GloryThe Restoration of Europe. These are peoples and nations which once tasted the blessedness, mercy, goodness, life, light, liberty, and glory of the Most High God, but have turned their back to God and are now perishing in a state of darkness and death, faithlessness, hopelessness, moral decay, deepening depravity, and social desolation.

The streets of Europe are littered with sadness and sorrow, depravity, and decay because they have rejected God, the worship and knowledge of Him, and the abundant life, peace, and joy in Him. But God has not abandoned Europe. He has left evidence of His goodness and mercy, His light, and way, His good works, victory, and triumph over darkness and death in the Church and godly people, the remnant of the faithfuls who love and bear testimony of His Truth, Light, and Glory.  There are disciples of Christ and torchbearers of the Truth, Light, and Way of God, who are holding on to trust in God through faith in Jesus Christ.

We are here to consider and renew our love, understanding, and strength in God and to rededicate ourselves to Christ, His Church, vision and mission agenda on earth. We hope with His grace to bring revival and restoration of truth, life, and light, the way of Peace, Righteousness, and Joy, Hope and Glory through faith in Jesus Christ and His Messianic Kingdom order on earth to Church and Peoples, governments, and nations in Europe.

May the Most High God grant us understanding and equip us to work towards the church mission task to reconcile, win, take-over, transform, and rebuild Europe in Christ and the knowledge of God. Europe must return to God and Christ, the worship of Him alone as God, and God Kingdom Order on earth.

As we have observed, winning, transforming, rebuilding, and restoring Europe is a heavenly mission task of deep and multiple dimensions. We re-visit church mission therefore not only for clear understanding of the heavenly ordered mission agenda, but also in order for the church to rededicate herself to the mission task.

Church mission is essentially a product of Christ’s vision and mission on earth.  It is for this cause, He has opened heavenly gates for the called, chosen, and sent out, allowing them to receive authority, power, wisdom, and divine graces for partnership with Him for the pursuit of His earthly mission agenda. “As the Father has sent me, so send I you” saith the Lord. This is the way He describes the church mission task.

BACKGROUND TO THE CHURCH MISSION

The Church as we know is a ‘called and sent out’ people. The Father sent the Son; the Father also called and gave people to the Son. The Son, in turn, initiated, equipped, and sent out the Church.  Church mission therefore is of a two-tier nature:

  • First, it is of a corporate global entity– the people begotten unto the Father by and through the Son, sent in a corporate body to pursue the Father’s Will, Design, and Purposes through connection and collaboration, obedience, and working with Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit throughout the nations. In reality, Church Mission is by extension and definition the pursuit of Christ Vision and mission agenda on earth, all to the glory of the Father.  Thus, says the Lord, “…As the Father has sent Me so send I you.” (John 20:2). So, the Father might be glorified in the Son, if ye bear fruit (John 14:13; 15:8).
  • Second, Church Mission involves spiritual networking for mission in time and space, with diverse callings, commissions, and activities, all owing allegiance to and drawing spirit, strength, direction, and control from Christ. All are truly set in place, directed, supervised, coordinated, and controlled by Jesus Christ through the Holy Spirit.

This is the basis of Christ authority and power in commissioning the Church. Indeed, the core spiritual underpinning with Church Mission is two-fold:

  1. The church works under heavenly authority and power in pursuit of the vision and mission of Christ Jesus (Matthew 28:18-20) and
  2. The church works in the company of the Holy Spirit in witness, demonstration, and testimony of who Jesus Christ is.  (Acts 1:8; John 15:26; 16:7-13).

This was amply demonstrated on the Day of Pentecost in the coming of the Holy Spirit and in the address by the Holy Spirit through Apostle Peter (Acts 2:22-40).

Meanwhile, the Holy Spirit confirmed this through Apostle Paul (Ephesians 4: 8, 11-13) that Church Mission is of the election, appointment, direction, and set goals of Jesus Christ. Hence, Christ assured the Church: “Lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Strictly speaking the Church’s mission is personal and special to Jesus Christ.

Before proceeding further, let us briefly examine the story of the Europe church mission. Europe has known God—His Spirit, power, and wisdom, His mind and mission agenda as well as the processes of Christ vision and mission in nations and the world.  Europe has been a pioneer with Christ vision and mission and the Christian Faith in the world. These constitute the spiritual, religious, political, and social order and moral foundation and culture of Europe: the Judeo-Christian culture of Europe.

Today, Europe has rejected God—the knowledge and worship of Him. His teachings, works, word of counsel, and promises have been set aside and replaced with ideas and philosophies, the counsel and practices of Satan and men, the principalities and powers of rebellion, disobedience, defiance, and disputation against Jehovah.

On the whole, both the church and the people, the governments and the nations in Europe have set aside the Truth, Light, the Law, Commandments, and Way of God. Unbelief and faithlessness in Europe have become the spiritual, legal, and moral basis of so-called ‘modernism.’

Accordingly, Christ Himself and the faithful remnant church in Europe are faced with many challenges. Critical among them are:

  1. The lack of faith in Christ and the Church. There is a virtual loss of faithfulness to Christ, the Scriptures and the Church mission agenda as ordered and set in place by the Master.  Indeed, there is a deep disconnect to Christ in the Church worldwide. Jesus foresaw this critical issue when He asked: “Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on earth?   (Luke 18:8). God is ready to avenge His detractors and face the challenges to His authority and power, vision and mission to bring redemption, restoration, and hope to the world.  But are there people with love faith and hope in Christ for this glorious mission task.
  2. There is general abandonment of Christ, His vision, and mission of messianic kingdom order on earth, and thus, the new world order after the knowledge of God and His Christ on earth. Satan and men who master-minded this have taken advantage to re-establish the old order of satanic reign and rule, now intensified by both human wickedness and human weakness. As a result, principalities and powers, the prince and power of the age are having a field day in Europe, and many nations of the world. Spiritual, religious, political, and social order of negativity is now in rein.

There has arisen in fact confusion in the church as regards to the meaning, significance, and direction of the Church’s role in society and the nations of Europe and the world for that matter. The most significant development in this respect is the rejection of Christ and therefore faith in Him and the Scriptures even in the church. His People are challenging and disputing Christ Mission agenda in the nations (Psalm 2).

This started from the time of the so-called period of enlightenment that began in the 18th Century.  The church has gone forth to accept the institution of human reasoning power as basis of life instead of faith, trust, and hope in GOD. This propelled the rejection of God and the worship, knowledge, and obedience of Him as the spiritual, legal, and moral basis of life and conduct, progress and prosperity.

This must be changed.  The Truth and Light of God, along with the glorious, triumphant position of Jesus Christ in the affairs of men and creation, must be clear, well-acknowledged, respected and honored. This can only be possible with a revitalized, true, and faithful Church with Divine love, passion, and dedication to true and faithful witness of Christ and testimony about the truth, power, and reality of the Scriptures and the Word of God in general.
