Europe for Christ Part 1

Series:

INTERVIEWER: My name is Salome Ahenkra and today I’m interviewing Brother Enoch of Enoch Missions. We took the opportunity to interview him on his last visit to London and Brother Enoch is often referred to as the father of the Evangelical, Pentecostal and Charismatic movement in Ghana. And now the launch of Enoch Missions Europe. So, Brother Enoch, welcome to London.

Brother Enoch: Thank you, Mama. It’s a joy to have met you all and to know the enthusiasm of the brothers and sisters for the launching of Enoch Missions in Europe. And I’m excited and waiting for the day when the bells shall tick and the Lord shall descend upon us.

INTERVIEWER: Good. You brought the sunshine with you. So, maybe we can start by asking you, what is Enoch Missions?

Brother Enoch: Enoch Missions is a world missionary outreach movement commissioned by the Lord and given the task to blow the trumpet heralding the second coming of Jesus Christ.

The motto of the movement is, Jesus is soon coming. That is to say, Enoch Missions is charged with a global task to proclaim the everlasting gospel of the kingdom of God, preparing the way for Christ’s return, his reign and rule of the earth and his governance of the nations of the world, meanwhile.

INTERVIEWER: Thank you for that. When was Enoch Missions established? Brother Enoch: Enoch Missions was established, as I said earlier, on the basis of a commission the Lord gave me personally in 1981. At that time, I was involved with the rebuilding of the broken walls of Ghana and the Lord took me to a point where he asked me to have a vision for the world and that my ministry should encompass the whole world and not just confined to Ghana.

And we decided therefore to have a team of evangelists to go out with me throughout the world on the basis of the Ghana Evangelical Society. But later on, the Lord told me that it is better to go to all the nations of the world and raise teams in the various nations to reach out in their respective nations rather than having a team in Ghana going around the world. The purpose therefore is to make sure that in every nation where brother Enoch goes, there is a team that will confront the realities of their nations and prepare the church and the people of that nation for the second coming of Jesus Christ.

INTERVIEWER: Right. So, Enoch Missions in a sense has been established since the 80s.

Brother Enoch: Yes. Actually, even though the Lord gave me the commission in 1981, we actually set it up as an organization in 1984.

INTERVIEWER: Right, right. Okay, thank you.

INTERVIEWER: So, in your last response you said it was to raise up, to build up people, the church. So why Enoch Missions and what does it do?

Brother Enoch: Actually, the vision and mission of Enoch Missions, global as it is, is to prepare the way for the Lord’s second coming, to bring revival in the church where Christ is exalted and glorified in the church itself and through the church in the world. The vision also entails, as in the book of Revelation 11 and 15, the kingdoms of the world becoming the kingdoms of God and his Christ. And finally, a new heaven and a new earth with the throne of God and a lamp in perfect, non-obstructed control in the affairs of the nations and the peoples of the world.

So the global mission task of Enoch Missions is to proclaim the everlasting gospel, as I said, of the kingdom of God and discipline disciples, church, nations and people for the kingdom of God on earth. We have also the task of raising and keeping an army, what we call the end-time kingdom army for wars and battles connected with building the church and confronting the gates of hell, redeeming and taking over nations and the establishment of Christ as God, the Christ kingdom or the Messianic kingdom and the kingdom of God on earth. Right.

In Matthew 16, verses 16 and 19, Jesus Christ told Peter that he was the Christ and that being so, upon his confession or the knowledge that he was the Christ saint and he was the Messiah, he would build a church, and the gates of hell cannot prevail against it. That he gave the church, through Peter, therefore the authority to bind and lose in heavenly terms. So, the church has that responsibility and duty and power in the Great Commission to confront all realities.

INTERVIEWER: So, practically, can you highlight for us some of the activities that Enoch Mission has been involved in up to now?

Brother Enoch: Enoch Mission has been involved with confronting the reality of the situation in Ghana. The Ghana Evangelical Society is a missionary movement also that Brother Enoch has held the leadership position since 1973 and it was there that the Lord spoke to me, it was through the activities of the Ghana Evangelical Society that the Lord commissioned me for the global mission. What we did in Ghana was, first of all, the Lord asked us to get involved with the rebuilding of the broken walls of Ghana and bring the nation back to Him God because the nation in the political arena during the post-independence era had changed from its Christian foundations and brought in atheistic philosophies, socialism and all other things.

Then there was idolatry, which was traditional religion, was elevated back, not only at the regional level or the sub-district level, but into national politics. And this had changed. The Nkrumah regime also took over the mission schools and the knowledge of God and the fear of God was virtually removed from the center of education and national life. And the Lord was not happy about the change. So, we were asked to bring the nation back to God and to bring the nation to its original Christian foundations so that the nation can push forward. We had to do this in three ways. Number one, to preach and bring revival in the church because the church had been marginalized in political and national life in those days, since 1960. Number two, we had to prepare a team that would confront the powers of darkness through which the nation was being oppressed and dominated by the powers of darkness because of idolatry, satanism, blood sacrifice, etc. And then also we had to preach the gospel of reconciliation and then spread the news from the church walls into the open-air streets and corners so that the people as a whole would come to know the reality of Jesus Christ and the message of salvation and the hope in Him. This is what we did throughout the whole country and today I can say our vision was Ghana, a de facto de jure Christian nation and today I can say to the glory of God that about 70% of the citizens of Ghana do claim that they are Christians.

INTERVIEWER: So, these were done through crusades, through teaching, through building up, raising up ministers.

Brother Enoch: Yes, if you come to think of it, then we say to the glory of God that the church became revived. Evangelism explosion became a reality and God used us through the ministry of the Ghana Evangelical Society to raise ministers all over and the effect of GES ministry is both church-wide and nation-wide.

We are a ministry; therefore our activities were involved with all churches that were willing to receive us and all over the country. Besides, we started from middle schools, secondary schools to university. So throughout we raised many children and men of God.

So, if you come to Ghana today, most of the church leaders, apart from the mainline church, and we have men, even in the Methodist, Presbyterian, Anglican churches that have been students or disciples of brother Enoch, of Enoch Missions and Ghana Evangelical Society and these churches, many churches and ministries have risen as a result of our work in Ghana.

INTERVIEWER: Okay, so now we come to Enoch Missions Europe and we know that the launch will take place on the 17th of July 2004 in London. How is Enoch Missions Europe going to operate and what are some of the things it will accomplish?

Brother Enoch:I think we can look at it at three main angles. The first one is that there should be revival in the church. The Lord has asked me, it is not Europe alone for that matter, but for the whole world. The Lord has asked me to re-present Jesus Christ back to the church. There is a lot of activity around the name Jesus or church but the reality is that in many cases Christ has been jettisoned out of the church. The ministry of the Holy Spirit is rejected and human thinking and human knowledge, human persuasions, human philosophies, psychology, and purely human and management principles, these have found their way into the church. So, the message of the gospel and the truth and the power of the Holy Spirit and God’s intention in redeeming human beings through the power of the word of God and the Holy Spirit have been rejected. So, the church becomes like another social organization in society, and it is not that divine institution that will carry out divine purposes. So, the first thing is to bring revival in the church by making the church re-focus on Jesus Christ.

The second point is to confront the spiritual powers which are dominating in the air. You know, the Bible tells us that Satan is the god of this world and is the prince of the air that is responsible for the rebellion, disobedience, and therefore the perpetration of the wrath of God and judgment on human affairs. If Christ has shed his blood for reconciliation, then these systems of satanic powers that dominate men must be removed in the air. That is why the Bible says, Jesus said, he has given Peter or the church the power to bind and loose and to confront the gates where decision making takes place, etc. But you have to take control, confront the powers in the air that are responsible for the systems down. And then when you finish that one…

INTERVIEWER: So, this will be political, societal?

Brother Enoch: No, first we have to deal with the spirits and powers. For example, I came to London the other day and I had to deal with some powers, you know, at Piccadilly Circus, over the Thames River, etc. Just to make way for the gospel to go out in Europe, in England and then the third area, now we have to investigate the political, economic, and sociocultural realities on the ground so that we bring the people’s knowledge back to God and then we bring transformation of the structures by which society is organized. And then bring hope and direction to both the leaders in church and state, and also in society as a whole. These are some of the areas of our operation.

INTERVIEWER: In many ways, Enoch Mission has a concepts and the concepts you’re talking about are quite large and global and for the average person, they may need a lot of explanations. So, moving on to the strategies you will use to communicate to both people within the church and outside, and the man on the street, or the woman on the street. What are some of the activities through the launch Enoch Missions Europe will engage?

Brother Enoch: You know, Enoch Missions are two basic functions from the Christian perspective or the church perspective. Apostolic function and prophetic function. But in the Apostolic function, there’s evangelism and if we have to bring revival to the church, then there’s a kind of evangelism which must go out both in the public arena and also within the church.

Then the second is that the Apostolic function must disciple leaders, both in the church and the state. You know, if you want to build a new society of righteous people, then there must be leaders of righteousness. Because the Bible says, when the unrighteous rule, the people mourn but when the righteous rule, the people rejoice.

So, we have to find righteous leadership in society, in all areas. That’s why Jesus said, the church must confront the gates of hell.

So, in every area of national life or every sector, a sector of the political economy, we must find Christians who are able to bring transformation in their respective areas. So, the outreach, both outside in the streets, in the church, and then within the church, there must be discipling of pastors and the gentlemen and ladies in the church. I mean, the saints, to be able to bring transformation into their respective areas.

I must confess that the rebuilding of the broken walls, when you take the concept of the book of Nehemiah, it suggests that all the people near the various gates, repair the gates close to them. Therefore, in every area of national activity, Christians, whether it’s in legal profession, in the judiciary, in the economic, in the marketplace, in music, in culture, in theater, everywhere, Christians in those areas must bring their faith to bear, and they should know that there are missionaries out there to bring transformation, to bring the knowledge of God and the demands of God in national and human affairs generally, in play, wherever they are. So, Enoch Missions has a responsibility to raise men within the churches, and to bring the church’s awareness to these responsibilities, that each church should be aware that the lawyers, the doctors, the judges, the politicians, whoever are in the churches, have a duty to take the Christian message to where they are.

We are grateful, we thank God, for example, in the House of Lords, there’s a place for the church in the House of Lords, and the Queen of England is the head of the Anglican Church. You would suppose that that means that the Queen of England is the head of the church in England, or in the United Kingdom.

So, if that being the case, then the society, politics, and business, everything in England, must reflect the Christian faith and when this is rejected or marginalized, society faces a serious problem, and the church must be able to be out there to bring the light of Christ in these matters.

The second issue with revival in the church is the raising up of the voice of God in national, human affairs, and world affairs generally. The church has a duty to bring the voice of God, or the prophetic voice of God. God always has a prophet in nations. When issues come, and leaders need direction, divine direction, the church must have ears open and be ready to speak as God directs in national issues.

INTERVIEWER: So, in this regard, the prophetic voice of God coming through the prophets have to be heard in the affairs of nations.

Brother Enoch: And the church must be bold to declare that thus says the Lord.

INTERVIEWER: Right. And that is one of the commissions? That is part of the commission of the nations. To prepare, to equip, and through us, God will raise these kind of people. There are people already in this country and everywhere who God has appointed and anointed for that purpose. But the church voice is not out there in the center because the church has been marginalized, or the church has abandoned the prophetic mission. That is very critical, especially in these difficult times when leaders actually need direction. INTERVIEWER: So, this is a central core of the mission of Europe in revival.

Brother Enoch: The second aspect of our vision and mission in Europe would be a redeemed Europe from Satanism, modernism, and racism.

INTERVIEWER: So, in summary, Christians should affect and influence every sphere of the society where they live?

Brother Enoch: I would not say just affect, they must take over.

INTERVIEWER: The second aspect of the commission of Enoch missions Europe deals with modernism, post-modernism. Can you enlighten us on how this is going to be done?

Brother Enoch: I was telling a church the other day, when you come to modernism, post-modernism, and liquid society, we can look at it in two areas.

Number one, the Bible says in Haggai, and also in Hebrew, that there will be a shaking of things. There will be a shaking in the end times. So there is a shaking taking place. Gentiles and Jews, Greeks and all. The redemption that Christ brings, even if there was a culture or a spiritual condition of slavery, it is cancelled with Christ’s redemption. All curses are no more.

There is no curse. So, any Christian who quotes the Old Testament for rejection of black men, or make a black man a slave, is not being a Christian. I would only mildly say they are being Old Testament, but they are not Christianity as the New Testament properly says.

When I was in South Africa, the Lord spoke to me about this. It’s a very serious problem. You know, like a Christian, a tooth for a tooth, an eye for an eye. The black man is a slave. These are all Old Testament concepts. It’s not Christianity at all. I think the Church has been very wicked in this matter and Enoch Missions is involved in bringing that change, wherever we are.

INTERVIEWER: So, propelling the black man to his right standing before God, in Christ and society to fulfil the purpose for which God created him.

Thank you on that. Going towards the launch of Enoch Mission, which is taking place this Saturday, the 17th of July, if someone is listening to this tape, and actually feels led to be involved or to come to the launch, what can the individual, what can I do, how can I buy into the Enoch Mission?

Brother Enoch: I would say participation in Enoch Mission activities is, first of all, open to churches, the ministers of the Gospel, because leadership has a lot to do with what happens in the Church and in the world. So, Enoch Mission has a responsibility towards the Church leaders, the churches, the ministers, lay preachers, etc.

We are also very keen on training the youth. We also want to open it for people who are involved in intercession and spiritual warfare, because there are battles involved.

This is not just ordinary intercession or warfare, but it’s a deep thing that people have to be properly anointed. These are battles with spirits and powers that control regions, issues for generations. So, it’s not just a laying on of hands of people to deliver them, but it’s a power to take the strongholds if you can change things.

And we also want individuals. People may feel that they themselves have a burden for missions. For example, Enoch Mission is also involved in the redemption of Africa, and we are coming here to Europe and people feel they want to be part of a movement that will bring change in society, that will bring transformation. So, individuals can play. Corporate organizations or NGOs, or you may call it community organizations, can also participate so far as they accept our Christian belief systems.

When we are moving, we will have conferences with churches and all the Christian community, and we can raise men through people, such people. We will have conferences. We will have prayer seminars. We will have proper impartation and then we are also going to have a college in Ghana for training the strong men for the nations of the world. Thank you.

INTERVIEWER: So, individuals can get involved through conferences. The church leaders can get involved through seminars.

Brother Enoch: And we can also be invited to hold seminars, revival services in churches.

INTERVIEWER: Okay. Now, can an individual partner with Enoch Missions?

Brother Enoch: They are very much welcome.

INTERVIEWER: Okay. I also heard you talk about publications and dissemination of information. We live in the Internet age. Tell us how you are going to record. Is there a publication aspect of Enoch Missions Europe?

Brother Enoch: Yes. We are organizing a research and publication division in Ghana to do research into African culture and transformation of African culture, and also to do research in the structures, governmental structures, and so where Christians can play their part so that we can provide information for governments, for business communities that want to go on in the Christian way and to prepare a Christian community for a Christian nation.

We have a website, www.enochmissions.com on which we want to give information generally. We also want to issue out some booklets for the training and equipment of churches and personalities who are involved in these matters around the globe. We want also to establish a studio where we can have audio and visual materials for the benefit of churches and house groups, etc, that want to go through things, women’s groups, men’s groups, etc., so that they can take on the challenge of society and they can be properly equipped. Sometimes Christians enter into politics and they have no Christian agenda to do these things. There’s no discipline, and this is where we want to be of use, both to the church, I call it servants of church and state. We want to produce men of this nature. So, publications is a very important element of our work.

INTERVIEWER: So, your publications, your website, which is www.enochmissions.com would have information, and presumably you mentioned earlier on the conference you’re going to have in June 2005. Some of these publications will be available for people to be able to…

Brother Enoch: Hopefully a few will be available for the basic issues that we are confronting but as we are now coming into the marketplace, there will be prayer and research about the peculiar political and spiritual and political and economic problems of Europe. We are now setting foot. There will be a time of deep prayer, so that the Lord will tell us exactly what is happening.

So, it will take some time before we have specific literature that affects the European situation. We have general information of what is happening in Europe, but when we settle down and we have our team on the ground, then shall we pray and the Lord will give us the details of the spiritual operations and whatever we should do here. So, it will take some time before we have specific literature for Europe.
