FAITH AND GLORY OF THE FAITH. Part 2
SERMON INSIGHTS
The Human Context and the Escape Route
Central Spiritual Truth: Human existence is naturally characterized by spiritual darkness and corruption, necessitating a faith-based escape rather than a legalistic one.
- The Reality of Sin: The speaker lists “human sacrifices, wicked works in politics and business, witchcraft, stealing, robbery, and lies” as the context of human existence.
- The End of Sin is Death: He warns that this state offers “no light and there is no hope,” and its ultimate end is death.
- The Blood Sacrifice: The “escape route” is not found in laws or regulations but “by the broad faith in Jesus Christ who shed His blood for the remission of sins.”
- Scriptural Anchor: “Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.” Acts 20:21.
Faith as the Foundation of Righteousness
Central Spiritual Truth: Faith in Jesus Christ is the legal and spiritual basis upon which God counts a believer as righteous.
- Counted as Righteous: The speaker asserts that “faith in Jesus Christ is counted as righteousness to you,” moving the believer from a state of “coming short of the glory of God” to standing in His favor.
- The Role of the Son: Christ is established as the Son of the Living God, serving as the foundational wisdom and power of God for the believer.
- Scriptural Anchor: “But of Him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption.” 1 Corinthians 1:30.
The Progression of Christian Maturity
Central Spiritual Truth: A genuine encounter with Christ initiates a growth process where spiritual service moves from duty to a motivated, intense joy.
- The Motivation of the Spirit: Maturity is marked by a lack of compulsion: “Nobody has to force you to go and witness… the joy of the Lord, the motivation of the Spirit… will motivate you.”
- The Signs of Backsliding: The speaker identifies folding one’s arms during singing, being late to service, or losing excitement for giving as signs of backsliding and spiritual weakening.
- Intensity and Impact: A matured Christian’s service “grows in intensity and it broadens in impact.”
The Manifestation of the Holy Spirit in Service
Central Spiritual Truth: The Holy Spirit is the active agent who validates and manifests the glory of God through the believer’s worship and knowledge.
- Purposeful Presence: The Holy Spirit has “come purposely” to manifest through the believer’s life and service.
- The Missing Element: The speaker warns that if one is not experiencing an increase in intensity and impact, “then something is missing in your Christian service.”
- Worship and Knowledge: Growth must occur simultaneously in three areas: “your knowledge, worship and service.”
