IN THE BEGINNING – LIGHT
THEME: THE MYSTERY OF THE CREATOR-WORD AND THE DESTINY OF THE SOUL
The great book of books, the Bible begins the narrative of the self-revelation of God the Creator, His nature, and His relationship with His creation, the things that are seen and unseen in the heaven and on earth by the declaration “LET THERE BE LIGHT,” and there was light. (Genesis 1: 3)
In that declaration, the Creator began to unfold the mystery about Himself. The statement not only reveals that God is Spirit but also that He has authority, power, and wisdom to create things and set them in motion in “Let there be”, God the Creator reveals His power to create, give nature form, power, and glory to things and set them in desirable order by the word of His mouth or better still by the power of His word as spoken, as declared, yes, as commanded. He by His word, God the Creator determined the nature, glory, and order of all existence. We conclude that in the same statement “let there be light,” God the Creator opened the way for the appearance and revolutionary knowledge of Him and nature as the Word, Light, and Life.
In John 1: 1-4, the Bible opens up the mystery of the Creator as God, Word, Light, and Life. The Bible gives further hint that there is a mystery behind The Word and The Light that appeared in the beginning and which set the creation process in motion. The mystery according to the scriptures is this: the Word and Light are not merely tools of the Creator, but are part and parcel of the Divine Nature of God Himself. Furthermore, this Word and Light is revealed as Christ, whom the Father has declared to be His Son (John 1:1- 4; Matthew 3:17).
Christ the Son of the Living God (Matthew 16: 16-17) is in effect the “Creator-part” of the Supreme Majestic Divine Spirit, God the Creator. (John 1:3-4; Colossians 1: 15-17) Christ, the Word is the Son, the rich Divine Spirit nature, and source of and behind creation. Hence, it is stated “All things consist of Him, and without Him was not anything made.” In short, Christ is the first Divine element or substance of all creation.
Please note that whilst all things came into existence by the word, it is only with man, that the Godhead, the Triune God— Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, that, consist as the son, Christ, The Son of the Living God (Matthew 3: 17; 16: 16-17).
From the above we know that, The Word that became flesh and given the name Jesus Christ is part and parcel of God The Divine Creator, otherwise described as The Father by all His creation and above all He is Father for the sake of His Son Christ Jesus, who also has become the Everlasting Father to all who come to the God-Head through Him. For of His Spirit, are all believers in Him “born again,” adopted, and given the privilege, honor, standing, and power as children of God. (John 1: 12-13).
Building upon the revelation in Matthew 16:16-17, we see that the God of the Beginning—He who spoke all things into existence and commanded their nature, form, and glory—has now identified the specific part of His creative nature that set the universe in motion. By the Father’s revelation to Peter, we know that this Creative Power is none other than Christ, the Son of the Living God. We know in this regard that belief in spirits, angels, ancestors, saints, demons, and familiar spirits generally pertain to life conditions and affairs on this place of existence. They do not concern themselves with the state of the human soul and its eternal standing and status. It is here that, Jesus asked the question, “What does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses his own soul?” Will come to this later.
Now, the first and fundamental issue about ancestral worship is that it comes straight against the supremacy of God the Creator. The Bible reveals that the first fundamental and crucial effect is that “The soul that sins shall die.” Eve-Adam sin brought the eternal damnation of the soul of man to death – eternal separation from God, a state that no spirit or ancestor can remedy.
