Righteousness Exalted A Nation

Series:

SERMON INSIGHTS

The Divine Foundation of National Honor

Central Spiritual Truth: The moral standing of a nation is determined by its adherence to righteousness, and the refusal to acknowledge God brings inevitable reproach.

  • “Righteousness exalts a nation but sin is a reproach”. This truth applies to any people, particularly those who profess to be children of God.
  • The fundamental requirement for national righteousness is that the people must acknowledge that there is God. Without this basic recognition, people are already in sin and have no hope.
  • Refusal to honor Christ as God is not a problem for Christ, but a problem for the people who will face judgment. God is not troubled by man’s rejection, as the consequences fall solely upon the person or nation that chooses to disobey.
  • Whether a nation acknowledges Him or not, God remains the King of kings and the ultimate Judge. His existence is a fact that persists regardless of human recognition or governance.

The Inescapable Reality of Natural and Divine Law

Central Spiritual Truth: God’s laws are woven into the fabric of nature, and any violation of these laws carries an inherent and unavoidable consequence.

  • Nature is the Word of God, and natural laws were spoken into existence with specific consequences for violations. These laws are written into the very nature of things and do not require further instruction to execute judgment.
  • Judgment is illustrated by the physical body: if you put water in your mouth, it travels its intended journey but putting it in your nose brings immediate consequences. This proves that judgment is not an external threat but is built directly into the laws of nature.
  • No human being can claim ignorance of God or an exemption from the obligation to obey Him. Every person is subject to natural laws that suggest a recompense whenever they are offended.
  • If natural laws demand obedience and carry judgment, the specific laws and commandments given by God demand much higher accountability. One cannot argue that God is love to escape the reality of His spoken and written laws.
  • Hebrews 2 emphasizes that there is no escape for those who neglect the path of salvation provided by God.

The Peril of Spiritual Compromise and Concession

Central Spiritual Truth: Small compromises in faith and philosophy constitute a total abandonment of righteousness, leading to a loss of spiritual power and identity.

  • A little concession, philosophically speaking, is an abandonment of the thing altogether. If you make a small compromise in your philosophy, you have essentially abandoned your core principles entirely.
  • Christians often lose their “salt” and their light dims when they stop talking about God out of fear of the environment’s hostility. This fear leads to a decline in enthusiasm and zeal, eventually causing the believer to join those they once stood against.
  • Ritualizing spiritual authority into a “formula” or “system” results in empty words without power. When prayer and binding Satan become mere habits rather than being led by the Spirit, they become meaningless repetitions.
  • Opening spiritual gates through sin or a lack of proper “hedges” allows “vipers” to pass through and cause harm. Believers must maintain their spiritual defenses through consistent obedience to prevent the enemy from entering their lives.

The Flourishing Life of the Meditative Believer

Central Spiritual Truth: Constant meditation on the Word of God provides the spiritual nourishment necessary to remain fruitful and prosperous in every season of life.

  • “But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditates day and night”. (Psalm 1:2) True delight goes beyond casual reading and involves a constant focus on God’s Word throughout all activities.
  • “And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season”. ( Psalm 1:3). Such a person is not shaken by external circumstances because their roots are deep in the spiritual water of God’s Word.
  • True prosperity is spiritual; as a spirit being grows in the likeness of Christ, everything they set out to do shall prosper. This prosperity is not measured by material possessions but by the spiritual authority and growth of the individual.
  • The righteous shall not wither because they are nourished by the “rivers of living water” flowing from their relationship with God. This internal nourishment ensures that they remain spiritually young and strong regardless of their physical age.
  • Spiritual maturity allows a person to stand firm even when mountains fall or when facing rejection from family and friends. By putting on the armor of God, the believer is equipped to withstand valleys and seasons of depression.

The Finality of Divine Judgment and Eternal Security

Central Spiritual Truth: While the ungodly are like chaff that will perish, the righteous find eternal security and victory through their union with Christ.

  • “The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away”. (Psalm 1:4). Unlike the rooted tree, the ungodly have no stability and will eventually be removed from the presence of God.
  • “For the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish”. ( Psalm 1:6). The end of the wicked is already settled by divine decree, and they will not stand when the final judgment comes.
  • The soul that sins shall die, and this judgment is written into nature and cannot be bribed. This death is an inescapable reality for any nation or individual that chooses the path of sin.
  • The victory of Christ is the ultimate example: though darkness covered the earth and enemies thought He was finished, He rose because death could not hold Him. This same resurrection power is available to the believer, allowing them to rise even when the world thinks they are defeated.
  • For those who dwell under the shadow of the Almighty, there is a point beyond which they can no longer fall because they are one with Christ. This eternal security is found in the consistency and truth of God’s Word, which provides a constant refuge.

Exhortations and Calls to Action

  • Consider your ways: Evaluate whether your zeal for the Lord has shifted or if you have begun to rationalize sin since changing your environment. It is vital to mind your own spiritual business first before looking at others.
  • Acknowledge God: Recognize that the fundamental requirement of righteousness is a public and private acknowledgment of God’s sovereignty. To refuse this recognition is to remain in a state of sin and rejection.
  • Meditate Day and Night: Do not merely read the Bible as a ritual, but travel on a spiritual journey through deep concentration on the Word. Let the Word of God be the water that makes you flourish in all seasons.
  • Rise Up: If you have fallen or compromised, rise up today, confess your sin, and allow the Lord to use you again. The Lord raises the righteous even after they have faced challenges or trials.
  • Rely on the Holy Spirit: Trust the Holy Spirit to make intercession with groanings that cannot be uttered, especially when you are unaware of your own unholy thoughts. The Spirit is essential for protection and for understanding the will of the Father in a hostile environment.

AMEN.
