THE CROSS OR THE CROWN: THE SOUL OF THE PRESIDENT

Series:

THEME: NAVIGATING THE CONFLICT BETWEEN CHRISTIAN FAITH AND POLITICAL OCCULTISM

I write this letter with an open heart for one main reason: your life and standing with God and His Christ, now and forever. However, there is another issue to consider— the place of God in your vision for the country.

May I state from the onset that the letter is written under the direction and inspiration of the Lord, who cares deeply for His people. Let me begin by revisiting an article I wrote in the year 2000, in which I raised two primary issues.  First, whether Atta-Mills was his own man, and second, whether Atta-Mills was capable of organizing, re-engineering, and leading the NDC out of the grips of the “Rawlings factor.”

In saying this, we did not only have in mind the political axis and structure of the NDC. We also had in view the spiritual axis— that is, the god or spirit-force and power base of the Rawlings factor in the NDC equation. It is an open secret that the NDC’s vulture- domed flag, the blood seal for election manifesto, and the Rawlings-fetish priests’ connection, among others, tilted the NDC more towards Satan, very far away in fact from God Almighty and His Christ.

It is in this regard that the Atta-Mills-Rawlings connection was, and is, most likely to throw a Ghana under Atta-Mills into a spiritual limbo. At the very least, Ghana will be thrown into a deepened spiritual wrangle as the spirit forces within the NDC party on one hand, and the nation as a whole on the other, pit their claims over the control of the country. The spiritual, politico-economic, and socio-cultural implications do not require extraordinary power of discernment.

That is to say, the Atta-Mills political machine will not only face internal obstructionist forces, if he attempts to canvass the honor of God and project his Christian faith and God Kingdom agenda into his administration. Prof. Atta-Mills himself will be called upon to make substantial compromises to the possible extent of the denial, neglect, and rejection of God and His Christ for the sake of power and political advantage. But what shall it profit man if he gains the whole world and loses his soul?

It may be worth observing here that many professed Christians— including theologians and ministers, some perhaps of very high-ranking ecclesiastical positions who would not find anything wrong with such compromises. Some may have no real connection with Jesus Christ and the truth of the scriptures in the first place.

It would not be far-fetched, therefore, to posit that some professed Christians may be engaged in the consultation and invocation of spirits and powers through various sacrifices— animal or otherwise— applying worldly wisdom to their religious and business enterprises. To many Christian leaders, the Cross and Christ factor in human redemption and socio-cultural transformation is irrelevant to their philosophical, religious, political, and social constructs. The Kingdom of God on Earth and His righteousness has no place in life nor venture for this class of people.

It is because of these possibilities and the dangers inherent in Atta-Mills’ bid for power, that the Lord would have His servant to consider his faith in Christ and hope in him the Living God, and thus the eternal significance of his confession of faith in Jesus Christ as against temporal gains in life.

May I seize this opportunity to remind all the people of Ghana particularly the Church, the government, the chiefs and elders, politicians and business fraternity, the academicians and youth that God has chosen Ghana for His glory on earth. God has married and enthroned Himself as God and King of Ghana. No spirit, principality, nor power can change this. Whether the Church, government, and people will accept and honor God for His mercy and blessedness towards the country and the people is the big question. If we fail to recognize and honor God’s election of Ghana, regimes will come and go, but Ghana will make no real meaningful progress. God will “turn and turn” the country over, however long that lasts, but He will not hand over Ghana anymore to Satan and man, that is to spirits and powers that would not honor Him the Living God and His Christ, savior, and Redeemer of the world.

The kingdoms and thrones of Satan, blood sacrifices, and human wisdom are destined to fall. They will have no place in the New Ghana. The lesson for all aspirants for power and the service of the country in a leadership position is the need to take a definite decision regarding GOD, His Christ, and the destiny of the nation. For Atta-Mills, the professed Christian, it is a matter of his confession and hope for eternal life in Jesus Christ. The critical issue is : whom to serve— God or Man?
