THE TRIUNE FOUNDATION: LOVE, FAITH, AND HOPE

Series:

SERMON INSIGHTS

THE REVELATION OF THE TRIUNE FOUNDATION

Central Spiritual Truth: The core of the Christian life is built upon the three eternal pillars of love, faith, and hope, all of which are perfectly contained within the message of John 3:16.

  • Love as the Basis: The whole of the Christian faith is based on God’s love, which serves as the fundamental issue of our walk. This love is the very foundation upon which every other spiritual discipline must be built.
  • The Scriptural Synthesis: The foundation, ramifications, and import of love, faith, and hope are all contained within the single verse of John 3:16. This scripture reveals God’s love, showing how these three words work together for the believer.
  • The Greatest Virtue: Referring to 1 Corinthians 13:13, it is confirmed that faith, hope, and love remain, but love is the greatest of them all. This hierarchy of virtues was a primary focus of the Lord’s discussion during this unique mission.
  • Foundation for Mission: These three words, faith, and hope are described as the foundation of the church mission. Without this foundation, the work of the church and the mission cannot be effectively accomplished.

THE INCOMPREHENSIBLE DEPTH OF DIVINE LOVE

Central Spiritual Truth: God’s love is a deep, sacrificial reality that surpasses human psychological definitions and remains constant despite man’s fallen nature.

  • Beyond Psychology: This divine love cannot be defined by psychology or reduced to a mere “human perspective”. It is a deep, spiritual reality that exists far beyond common human books or emotional feelings.
  • Superior to Knowledge: Following Ephesians 3:19, the love of Christ is described as that which “passeth knowledge”. It is impossible for the human mind to fully comprehend the depth and scale of this love.
  • Contrast with Human Loyalty: While human friends, spouses, or children may easily deny or fail one another to get their own way, God remains faithful. He has lived with fallen, disobedient, and rejecting men, yet He continues to love them without ceasing.
  • The Ultimate Sacrifice: The manifestation of this love is that God gave His only begotten Son for the world. In doing so, He reduced Himself from His glorious position to a human non-entity for our sake.
  • The Goal of the Believer: Believers are exhorted to “fall into this love” because it is a deep place God wants everyone to enter. One should constantly thank the Lord and ask Him for this specific type of love that enables one to live with and love mankind.

THE SUPREMACY OF THE WORD AND THE PERSON OF CHRIST

Central Spiritual Truth: Jesus Christ is the Word of God made flesh, a version of His glory taken on specifically to make God accessible to humanity.

  • The Word Became Flesh: In the beginning was the Word, and that Word eventually became flesh and dwelt among us. This movement from Spirit to flesh was the ultimate demonstration of God’s desire to express His love.
  • Inaccessible Light: In His fullness, God is a “consuming fire” and a “light inaccessible” that no human could contain. He lowered Himself into a human version so that we could walk with him and contain His presence.
  • Valuing the Word: The Bible states that God cherishes and magnifies His word even above His own name. ( Psalm138:2) Therefore, believers must place a high value on the Word, recognizing its internal power and spiritual dynamics.
  • The Name of Jesus: While “Jesus” refers to the human being, “Christ” represents the divine dimension of the Word. Using the name Jesus allows us to address Him as one who understands our human feelings and interests.
  • Constant Presence: The Word of God is not distant but indwells the believer and stays with them in every situation. Whether in the office or in private, He is there witnessing our work and our heart’s intent.

FAITH AS THE CATALYST AND HOPE AS THE ENDURANCE

Central Spiritual Truth: Faith is the key that ignites God’s promises, leading to a settled hope of everlasting life and transformation into His likeness.

  • The Mechanism of Faith: Faith comes specifically by hearing the Word of God and is critical to all Christian life and work. It is the essential “key” that allows a person to enter into the love God has opened up.
  • The Hope of Everlasting Life: Within John 3:16, the hope provided is the promise of “everlasting life”. This hope is a structural pillar of the faith that ensures we shall not perish.
  • Ultimate Transformation: The certainty of our hope is the promise that “one day you shall be just like me”. (1 John 3:2).  This expectation of walking in eternal glory is the great promise that worldy things cannot compensate for.
  • Patience in Waiting: Hope is described as a “settled issue,” yet it requires the believer to exercise endurance and patience. We must wait with the conviction that whatever the Lord has said, He is able to bring to pass.
  • Walking Step by Step: Faith does not always provide an elaborate vision but requires walking with Him step by step. This walk involves denying oneself, as one cannot be a disciple while still clinging to self-love.

EXHORTATIONS AND CALLS TO ACTION

Central Spiritual Truth: True belief requires a public testimony of God’s work and a heart prepared through repentance and sacrificial service.

  • A Call to Speak: Believers must go out and talk about what God is doing in the nation rather than remaining silent. You can write articles or tell others, but you must not fail God by refusing to speak.
  • Active Service: Love must be demonstrated by giving to brothers and sisters in need and by being dedicated to the work of the church. One should be the “first person” to attend meetings and fulfill duties rather than being late or indifferent.
  • Self-Denial: Believers must not love themselves so much that God’s blessings become “cheap” in their eyes. True discipleship requires putting aside personal anger and foolishness to follow His commands.
  • Repentance and Preparation: Before serving or receiving from the Lord, one must confess their sins and ask for cleansing. Present yourself to the Lord and let Him prepare your heart so that you do not judge yourself.

AMEN.
