IS THERE A CANDIDATE!  IS THERE A PARTY!

Series:

THEME: DIVINE SOVEREIGNTY VS. THE MORAL VACUUM OF MULTI-PARTY DEMOCRACY

Praise the Lord! People of Ghana, sons and daughters of Africa, we face a crisis in the political arena in Ghana. The multi-party system is experiencing a real jolt as political parties struggle for credibility, legitimacy, and right of representation. The campaign for Election 2012 is generating intense heat, with confusion, chaos, animosity, and bitterness brewing within and among the political parties of the country. To date, it does appear that there is only one political party ready and focused.

The internal, external, and interparty strife is assuming new and unprecedented heat. It may end up in ‘drowning’ candidates, strangulating parties, and forcing a plethora of independents. That may lead to amalgamations for purposes of policy formulation and execution. Is the country revisiting the ‘Union Government’ proposals, where Parliamentary and Presidential Candidates are expected to stand on their own? Where national policies worked out as much as possible on consensus and where policy execution at the regional and district levels will be based on people’s priority preferences and not political party ideological and strategic policy options and goals?

People of Ghana, multi-party democracy is virtually on hold due to the intense wranglings, ‘fiery shots and fires’ all over the place. It cannot be overlooked or easily dismissed this unfortunate development happening at the watch of President Mills. We have written about the challenges of unity, cohesion, and advancement and progress the NDC as a party will face and consequent upon this what the nation will face under Prof. Atta Mills as far back as year 2000. I got that piece reproduced in year 2002 and 2009 in the local press. The 2000 article appeared among others in The Watchman. We reproduced it in 2002 and again in 2009 in The Ghanaian Observer (Monday, November 9, 2009).

We humbly suggest that the Christian Church and all believers and worshippers of the Most High God take a look at the submissions and observations in that article in their prayers for politics and governance in the nation. But let us quickly assure the people of Ghana nonetheless, that Ghana is safe in the arms of God—not man, not political parties and more so not foreign donors, foreign investors, and foreign governments. Now, this article has emerged from a voice that whispered to my hearing midnight 20th – 21st May 2011, saying “Is there a candidate? Is there a party?

Most of the political parties in the country are facing serious crisis—internal bleeding and the free flow of blood, strength, and spirit. The internal wranglings are not merely exposing the lack of unity and cohesion in the parties. They raise doubts about whether there are true and genuinely thought out, agreed, fully bought, in and subscribed philosophies, ideologies, and above all national objectives, and goals. There are also problems with leadership and clearly determined, properly defined, and acceptable modalities within parties.

It would appear that the political parties in Ghana are only concerned with power. They are therefore only engaged in mobilizing around power, how and who to win power, not philosophy nor ideology, nor party national goals, and objectives. That is why there are such immoral insulting and demeaning practices, vote buying and delegates hounding and hording, high level shifting loyalty and open infidelity.

To be sure, infidelity is a national cancer—an ‘African malaise.’  When this is coupled with the hold of poverty on minds and spirits, Ghanaians can be bought, sheaved, and parked as playing cards.  Even the Christian church charged to disciple people and nation on the knowledge and fear, truth, and honesty, holiness, righteousness, and faithfulness of GOD, is now full of liars and flatterers, deceivers, and wicked game players with the souls of men. Poverty mingled with fear and lust for money has its way of robbing people including highly placed, rich and powerful of dignity and honor.

In Ghana, lies, dishonesty, and wickedness have been developed into fine and acceptable art and conduct in politics and public service, in church and business. Of course, there are exceptions.  There are saints and remnants of the church who have not bowed to Baal. There are business folks averse to dishonesty and fraud, corruption, and robbery.

The interplay of lies, wickedness, poverty, and fear, the lust of money and power craze in politics has led to the creation of a spiritual, philosophical and moral vacuum in conduct and life, politics, and governance, and national affairs as a whole. Perhaps, it is here that the still small voice is asking: IS THERE A CANDIDATE! IS THERE A PARTY!

In other words, in view of the wranglings, “fiery shots” and fires in the political parties and political arena in the country, will there be safe and secure party candidates of popular consent? And will political parties stand solid and remain stable in the face of such wranglings and upheavals, wicked and dishonest practices?

May we seize this opportunity to ask the Christian Church of all political conviction, political party persuasion, affiliation, and allegiance to seek the face of God in spirit and in truth for His Will and Abiding Hand upon the country?  God’s people cannot but elect, choose, and stand with Jehovah God, Father of Jesus Christ against Satan and man. Any other conviction and persuasion cannot hold.

“And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.” (John 14:3 NKJV).

No true child of God, standing with Christ, can follow Satan and wicked, conscienceless mortals.

May we further remind the people of God that while politicians and people seek for and hover around power and money, philosophy, ideology, and personalities, Let the people of God rally around God, Christ and country and the kingdom of God in Ghana and Africa.
