THEME: BUSH’S POST-9/11 POLICIES MILITARIZED THE U.S., DANGEROUSLY THREATENING GLOBAL PEACE

President George W. Bush entered Federal American presidential political scene in a storm and controversy, with a divided nation and people.  His first year in office did not witness any rise in popularity, if anything it was in reverse gear until September 11. September 11 not only raised America’s national consciousness and helped to arrest the seething division and frustration; it became a kind of “saving bell” in the declining fortunes of President George W. Bush. Since then, President Bush has jumped on the September 11 political tidal waves to turn the American peace economy into a war economy, gratis Mr. Bin Laden.

But this is not without cost: the huge budget surplus built with religious fervor has turned into a deficit budget with looming prospects.  The full cost of September 11 to America is yet to unfold.

From the spiritual and long-term perspectives however, the rise in popularity of President George Bush as A War Time President is one of default, which may well have grave consequences for Mr. Bush himself, his Administration and the United States of America as a whole. Of course, be it as it may, the United States can and will outlive the George W. Bush Administration. It may be worthwhile meanwhile for the United States to seriously consider her emerging image as a Warring Nation of post-cold war twenty first century world order.

With the declaration of the “Terrorism War”, and with it the earmarking of some nations as “Evil-Axis” to justify open aggression or military action against such nations, America is drawing up new rules for the conduct of affairs in the new world order.

America is directing her economic and military might to the pursuit of a new global stance and status as the one only Ruling World Power whose voice must be obeyed.  This is an unfortunate development.

In this regard, one would expect that in her new position as the surviving post-cold war world power, America will use her favored position not only to lead to the dismantling of the structures of the arms race, nuclear war and the threat of war as a whole but would actually organize to promote Peace and Liberty in the world, arrange constructive engagement with poverty and world disequilibrium caused by imbalances in global wealth and power distribution and the celebration of humanity via the promotion of democracy, human rights and human development in the poor nations and among the oppressed and suffering peoples of the world, beginning in the USA.

Instead of the gaping needs for Peace, Freedom, Liberty and Justice in the world, America wants to impose the will and pleasure of the few rich in America on the entire world.

Perhaps, it is necessary to mention further that the America global war machine is not confined to the Bush “Terror War” alone.  It also involves a global network of agents spread all over the world.  There does not appear to have been much change in this in the post-cold war era.  America’s global information and spying network has become an integral part of America the warring power system.

President George W. Bush is now fully set not only to re-organize the America war machine to fit her into the new image as America, the Warring World Power, he is also organizing to set in place new rules of place, power and conduct for the United States of America as reigning world power in the new world order.

Considering the spiritual and political background to September 11, the crying needs of the poor and less fortunate in America, the widening gap between super power America and the other rich nations on one part and between the few rich nations and the host of poor nations and suffering peoples on the other, the Bush posture of America the Warring Nation is a very, very serious threat to world peace and liberty, humane and godly world order.

America, please play it cool, safe and godly.

We call on the Church in America to call upon the Bush Administration to restrain the chariots and meanwhile launch out and pursue more vigorously the peace on earth and goodwill towards men mission of Jesus Christ, The Prince of Peace, King of Glory who soon comes to judge all.
